For the past four years of my career, I have been working with Fortune 100 clients to enable data driven customer experiences for their brands. With this experience has come a passion for solving the many challenges of digital marketing transformation. This summer I decided to pursue my Master’s in Marketing for my personal and career development. This is my first blog and I want to share how my time at the Salford Business will prepare me to further my career as a Customer Experience professional.

While you may be toying with the idea of getting your Master's degree or taking some of the many great online professional certifications, I say hands down “YES”! Let’s be honest most companies fail at providing relevant training that enhances our professional aspirations or challenge us to be better humans. Let me level with you, sometimes I need a wake-up call from my habitual routines, and it was a great decision. There are four key areas that will enable my personal and career growth. I picked four since everyone picks 3 or 5 ways.

Becoming a CX Thought Leader

In my day to day interactions with clients, I am gathering the most relevant use cases that the top marketers are facing. As a consumer and a professional, I want them to get it right since this will provide their customers to have an amazing brand experience and the brand will thrive. As I have been immersing myself in my studies, I realized I have lots to share from a practical and technical view. If you have a voice, and something relevant to share, people will listen and are looking for thought leaders to lead them through digital transformation.

Global Marketing Experience

Our family is quite International, and I love to travel and experience new cultures. One of the most fascinating things to do on vacation in foreign countries is to observe how global brands have shifted their approach in that market. You see the recognizable logo but the clear difference in the message and customer experience which has been adjusted to reflect the culture. I choose the University of Salford for the international marketing experience as well as all the international diversity of the students. I am looking forward to the week-long residency with other marketing professionals, as we will come together and learn how this course is shaping our futures.

Challenging my Abilities

To be at the top of your game depends on your ability to advance your skills and knowledge. My son Luc is a budding musician with incredible talent but if we did not continually push him to attend his weekly private lesson, practice, and perform how will he know what he is capable of. So now put that into practice for my talents and profession, I need to challenge my abilities and grow as an individual and a customer experience professional. I would be lying if I did not share that it has been extremely challenging as I face each assessment and must sacrifice personal comfort to put in the time to learn and grow.

Building my Professional brand

The very reason for my first blog is understanding and applying the very principles of marketing. If you want to be known and heard, you need to be seen. My mid-term assessment project was to build my personal brand and a connected digital profile. I created a website, linked all my social media sites, and will start creating content. I want to use data and technology to enhance the experience, sounds crazy right, since this is what I do every day for our clients but never put into practice for my brand. I am not sure I will be the next Gary Vee or Jeanne Bliss, but I do know I can try to find my authentic voice and shape the way to a data driven customer experience.

I hope you enjoyed my insights and that it may inspire you to go after some of the dreams and goal's you may be contemplating. It is never too late to make a difference and learn what makes you your authentic self!
